This is Hot Yoga The yoga room is intentionally heated to 40C degrees and about 40% humidity to promote weight loss, keep the muscles warm (to allow for deeper and safer stretching), increase the heart rate for a better cardiovascular workout, and cleanse the body of toxins through sweat.
Arrival Bookings aren't necessary but classes can be very busy, and we can only cater for a limited number of students per class. To avoid disappointment, please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class for registration.
You Can Do It! No prior yoga experience is required. This yoga is for all levels of athletic ability and all body types. You just go into the posture to the best of your ability and each class you do more. Just like any other physical activity, you will get used to it with practice. Every body adjusts to the heat differently, some people love it the first class, sometimes it can take a few classes to get used to it. Your body is amazing and has the ability to acclimate to anything with practice. If you are ever overheated in the class, you are always welcome to take a break and just join us when you are ready. Even if you have a difficult time the first class, try the class a few more times. It gets much easier with practice, we always do the same 26 postures in the same sequence so you will learn the series quickly and improve with every class.
Returning Students Remember, this yoga is powerful and challenging so pace yourself, don't force yourself, and don't expect to be perfect overnight. It's the instructors job to push you, and your responsibility to know what is enough for your body on any given day. Your improvement will depend entirely on the time and effort you invest. Respect your limits without babying yourself, but also expect those limits to change. Just do your best. The harder this yoga is for you the more you need to do it and the more you are going to get out of it.
This yoga works! The time and effort you put into it will return to you tenfold. It's the very best thing you can do for your health, your figure, your vitality, and your sense of well being.
Injuries/Illness Please inform your teacher of any illness or injury prior to the start of class.
What! You're Pregnant? The first trimester is a vital time for the developing fetus and you may be tired and/or feeling ill. Therefore, it is best to wait until after your 12th week before starting the yoga. Postures are modified for pregnancy but done with the regular students so you are welcome at any class. If you already do Bikram yoga and feel well you may just continue your regular practice until you feel the need for the modifications (between 8 and 12 weeks).
Water Water Water! Please make sure you are very well hydrated before attending any of our Bikram Yoga classes.
Clothing Wear light fitted comfortable clothing.
Meals Don't eat at least 2 hours prior to class.
What to Bring Bring a yoga mat, a towel and bottle of water. Alternatively these are available for hire or purchase at the studio. Our 90 minute classes are not only physically demanding but also very mentally challenging, so please bring a sense of humour. Trust the process and let go of any expectations. |
